‘Why Not Fix’? It’s certainly a lot cheaper than buying new…

In our fast moving technology driven world we often don’t have time to ponder what to do with our collection of ‘broken things’ before they get superseded with the latest must have gadget upgrade!

But why not spend a few minutes this festive holiday season thinking about whether you or your loved ones really need (and can afford!) that latest generation ‘Smartphone’, Tablet, Laptop or whether you might be just as happy getting your ‘can’t live without’ gadget fixed and saving yourself a small fortune in the process!

Everything is ‘fixable’ and it really why not fixjust comes down to parts availability and knowing who to turn to! For now I am going to focus on just one group of products – ‘Smartphones’.

We all know the big manufacturers like to make it difficult for us poor old consumers!  Specialist tools are often required to open and work on your phone, driving to a retail store miles away or sending your prized gadget away for weeks on end are just some of the headaches you could be forgiven for thinking you would encounter if you decided to go down the ‘fix it’ route. Any of these could leave you thinking it might be easier to just cut your losses and replace it with a new one which of course is the whole point!

Let’s face it, manufacturers are not really interested in you fixing your device – a fact borne out of the astronomical prices they charge for repairs! They would simply prefer you to spend your money on a shiny new device. The reality however is that it in most instances it will often be much cheaper to repair, using genuine manufacturer branded parts, than replace!

Three common fixes I come across all the time are;

Phone either not holding a charge/not charging at all

Replacing the battery or charging connector is cheaper than you think, from £35.00

Can’t hear people calling you?

Often this is just the earpiece that needs replacing, from £30.00

Broken/damaged screens

Replacement screens start from around £40.00 and some can even be fixed at your home or workplace with no need to send it away, enabling you to carry on with using it for business.

Even cameras/camera lenses are fixable and cost as little as £25.00!

So if you’re thinking you’ll need to ‘Replace’ your treasured gadget this Christmas, think again – ‘Repair’ might be your best option…
