I am a Small Business consultant, with 25 years’ experience of managing businesses change, in various countries and industries, from Kentish retailers and property agents to restructuring and selling energy companies in Australia.

I am a professional Project Manager, a partly-qualified accountant and have 3 degrees. I have advised a wealth of small business owners how to make their businesses more profitable,

I provide a fresh, external view on how your business operates, could your staff be retrained how to accelerate your cash flow, could your marketing be improved to reach more target customers, could your service operations be improved to create new sales opportunities from your existing customers?

I am a practical person and often work alone, but when required I can call upon industry expertise through a network of Associates in the UK, or colleagues I have worked with previously, to identify how each small business can best be improved and become much more profitable.

Initially l start with a 1 hour Q & A that l have developed over the years, with the owner or a Director, which enables me to get to know your business, from which l can start to understand the history and challenges your business faces. Many small businesses have evolved to be more complex than they need to be, with some Owner / Directors feeling slightly disconnected from the ‘front line’ where they started, as the business has grown and they have become a manager of finance, operations, salesmen, human resources and a staff counsellor. My job is to make your business work better, be more efficient, more productive and more effective. For example, I have transformed one office to regularly have 3 day weekends, by getting the office staff to work better together, use their technology better and so waste less time, but working Smarter to fit 5 days work in to 4 days, which is quite feasible without distractions like Facebook. I have helped sell over 20 businesses, usually after a change programs to make the business more profitable first. Maximising the sale price of a business takes preparation of 3, 6, 12 months prior to sale for a variety of reasons. Is legal title of all your assets secure, do you have a contract with each customers, do all your staff have Job Descriptions & Performance reviews ? Do you have a Customer Relationship Management system, are all your staff trained in 21st Century scams and know what to look for when called or emailed by someone they don’t know ?

I can usually reduce at least one of any businesses’ top 5 costs by 1/4 - 1/3, whether it be staff costs, rates, vehicle leases, energy costs or materials bought in. How often do you change your suppliers, do you run 3-yearly competitive tenders for your professional advisers (solicitor, accountant, energy supplier, materials supplier)? Do you run 12 or 6 monthly performance reviews for each of your staff, to identify training requirements to address shortfalls and update their skills in IT for example ? Are they trained / aware of 21st Century scams, would they recognise phishing phone calls, or emails seeking personal details to discover banking passwords?
